Understanding Kharkiv

Joanna Majewska and Tomasz Hodana refute the myth of Kharkiv as a Russophile, Russian city and explain why, contrary to the Russians' expectations, after the outbreak of the war, the inhabitants of the city did not welcome them as liberators.

They also focus on the changes that have taken place in the Ukrainian identity of the Kharkiv community in recent years, following the outbreak of the war in Donbas, and talk about the heroic defence of the city and the drama of the refugees.

The episode was recorded after the closing of the exhibition "Ukraine. A Different Angle on Neighbourhood ", as an extension of the podcast “To Ukraine in 20 minutes”. It is also a commentary on the current situation in war-torn Ukraine.
