About the programme

Thesaurus Poloniae is a three-month scholarship programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, organised by the International Cultural Centre in Krakow since autumn 2009. The programme is addressed to international scholars conducting research on the culture, history and multicultural heritage of the Republic of Poland and Central Europe.


For whom?
The programme is open to researchers whose work involves management and protection of cultural heritage, as well as to those working in the fields of history, arty history, sociology, ethnography, cultural anthropology, and other related academic disciplines.
The programme offers scholarships in two categories: the Senior Programme for professors and academics with a doctoral degree and the Junior Programme for PhD candidates.

How much is the scholarship?
Successful candidates in the Senior programme receive a scholarship of PLN 4,500 per month, and in the Junior programme – PLN 3,500 per month. All scholarship holders get also a one-time grant of PLN 1,500, paid together with the first scholarship, for the purchase of books and other materials.

Duration of the scholarship stay is 3 months.

Scholarship holders are provided with an independent, fully equipped apartment in the city centre.

How to apply?
The exact date of recruitment is announced each time on the ICC website.

Prospective applicants are requested to send to the ICC:
  • their CV,
  • passport-sized photo,

  • a copy of your diploma confirming the completion of your studies or the achievement of an academic degree ,

  •  recommendations of two academic tutors (in the case of applying for the Junior Programme),

  • an essay presenting the outline of the research programme to be carried out during their stay in Krakow (up to 500 words).

The organiser reserves the right not to provide reasons for not qualifying individual candidates for the scholarship programme.

Additional information
The scholarship holders may use the ICC library and the reading room equipped with computer stations with Internet access. The ICC offers assistance in reaching archives and libraries, as well as in making use of the educational and research offer of Krakow's academic and cultural institutions.

Submitted applications are evaluated by the Recruitment Committee, composed of representatives of the International Cultural Centre, the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, the Jagiellonian University, and the University of Economics in Krakow. The commission meets within fourteen days from the deadline for submitting applications.

The final number of scholarship holders is determined by the Recruitment Committee, who assess the research value of submitted applications and take into account the amount of the budget of the Thesaurus Poloniae programme in a given year.
Candidates who take part in the recruitment process will be notified electronically and by post about the recruitment results within three days from the Recruitment Committee’s decision.
