About the programme

Thesaurus Poloniae is a three-month scholarship programme of the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, organised by the International Cultural Centre in Krakow since autumn 2009. The programme is addressed to international scholars conducting research on the culture, history and multicultural heritage of the Republic of Poland and Central Europe. Applications for the 26th edition of the program are due by June 30, 2022. 

The programme is open to researchers whose work involves management and protection of cultural heritage, as well as to those working in the fields of history, sociology, ethnography, anthropology, etc.

Thesaurus Poloniae programme offers scholarships in two categories: the Senior Programme for professors and academics with a doctoral degree and the Junior Programme for PhD candidates.

25 editions of the programme have been held up to now, with scholarships awarded to 119 scholars from 34 countries (Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Iraq, Iran, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Latvia, Macedonia, Mexico, Moldova, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Syria, Ukraine, USA).

Successful candidates receive a scholarship (PLN 3,500 for the Senior programme participants and PLN 2,500 for Junior programme participants per month) and a one-time grant, paid together with the first scholarship, for the purchase of books and other materials (1,500 PLN).

The ICC offers the use of its library , the reading room of which is equipped with computer stations with Internet access, and offers assistance in reaching archives and libraries, as well as in making use of the educational and research offer of Krakow's scientific and cultural institutions. Scholarship holders are provided with an independent, fully equipped apartment in the city centre.

The exact date of recruitment is announced each time on the ICC website.

The final number of scholarship holders is determined by the decision of the Recruitment Committee, who assess the research value of submitted applications and take into account the amount of the budget of the Thesaurus Poloniae programme in a given year.

The Recruitment Committee, composed of representatives of the International Cultural Centre, the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, the Jagiellonian University, and the University of Economics in Krakow, evaluates submitted applications during a meeting convened within fourteen days from the deadline for submitting applications.

Candidates who take part in the recruitment process will be notified electronically and by post about the recruitment results within three days from the Recruitment Committee’s decision.
Prospective applicants are requested to send their CV, recommendations of two academic tutors (in the case of applying for the Junior Programme), as well as an essay presenting the outline of the research programme to be carried out during their stay in Krakow (up to 500 words). The documents should be sent to the ICC address within the above-specified dates.
