The latest selection of interviews with Professor Jacek Purchla, founder and long-time director of the ICC, an outstanding expert on the subject of heritage and history of Krakow, allows for a diversified view of the rapidly changing relationship between the past and the future. It is also an important chapter in the Krakow syndrome at the beginning of the 21st century.

We live in an age of heritage that has - says prof. Jacek Purchla - our dynamics, and today we decide every day what we intend to accept from all the inherited cultural goods and what we are ready to take responsibility for. The successes of the UNESCO World Heritage and UNESCO human heritage programs today symbolize its global dimension. The international discussion on heritage and its protection is accompanied by a spectacular development of heritage theory. There is even a new term 'heritology' in English, which defines a discipline that, in thinking about heritage, integrates such diverse fields of knowledge as the humanities on the one hand, and economics and management theory, law and planning on the other.
