Polish St. Petersburg
– heritage and memory
A bilateral conference

The Russian National Historical Archive in St. Petersburg is currently hosting the first in a series of bilateral conferences planned for 2013 and related to the project titled “The Polish St. Petersburg” carried out by the ICC. The project which has been delegated to the ICC by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage aims at organising – in 2015, i.e. within the framework of the Polish Season in Russia – a multimedia exhibition devoted to the presence of the Poles by the Neva river. The display will introduce the role the Poles played in social, cultural, scientific, artistic, economic and political life of St. Petersburg from the 18th to the 20th century to the Russian audience.

The April session is attended by Polish and Russian experts from various academic and research centres, including Prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Prof. Jacek Purchla the ICC Director, Prof. Alexander Sokolov and Prof. Tamara Smirnova. The conversance will juxtapose the present day research on the Polish community of St. Petersburg as well as its findings in Poland and Russia.
