Guided tour with Małgorzata Mirga-Tas and the curators of the exhibition

On the 2nd od December we invited you to a guided tour with the artist, Małgorzata Mirga-Tas and the curators – Natalia Żak and Wojciech Szymański – of the exhibition “Travelling images”.

The artist talked about the stories behind her works and about the technical details. The curators presented the concept of the show. They spoke in details about the specific groups of works: “O Fotografis” (A photographer), “Newo Rom – newo drom” (New human/new Roma man – new way), “Siukar Manusia” (Good/wonderful people), “Giantesses”, and “Out of Egypt”.They also commented, among others, on how the art of Małgorzata Mirga-Tas was related to the way Roma people had been pictured in the past.

Małgorzata Mirga-Tas – Polish-Romani artist and activist. In her art she addresses the topic of anti-Romani stereotypes, creating an affirmative iconography of Romani communities. She graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (2004). In recent years she has presented her works at numerous individual and group exhibitions, including documenta 15 in Kassel (2022), 3rd Autostrada Biennale in Prizren (2021), 11th Berlin Biennale (2020), Art Encounters Biennial in Timișoara (2019, 2021) and in Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne (2021), Centre of Polish Sculpture in Orońsko (2020), Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (2020) and Moravian Gallery in Brno (2017). In 2022, she represented Poland at the 59th Venice Biennale with her exhibition „Re-enchanting the World” displayed in the Polish Pavilion. She lives and works in Czarna Góra in Spiš.
