Lecture by dr. Jarosław Sellin: “Jews and Judaism as experienced by Karol Wojtyła”

We invited you to a lecture, organised by Intercultural Dialogue Institute of John Paul II in Krakow. The lecture dealt with Karol Wojtyła’s involvement in bettering the relationship between Jews and Catholics.

The aim of the lecture was to show how the future pope had become more and more sensitive to the Jewish issues. Dr Jarosław Sellin analysed Karol Wojtyła’s contacts with the Mosaic religion: his childhood in Wadowice – the city in which many Jews lived before the war, his experience of the multicultural Krakow, the dramatic events of the 2nd World War, and Karol Wojtyła’s activity as a bishop, metropolitan and cardinal.

Dr Jarosław Sellin is a State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The lecture will be based on his doctoral disseration entitled „Jews and Judaism as experienced by Karol Wojtyła and as defined in his teaching (1920 – 1978)”.
