The Adriatic Sea is more than a sea that binds coasts and peoples together. It is also a space where political influences clashed, where history was formed, and the imperial ambitions of various Central European countries were manifested. The International Cultural Centre would like to invite you to a cruise on the Adriatic Sea and a journey from its shores into the interior. Our map for this journey comes with the book “Adriatic” by Egidio Ivetic, and the guides will be Robert Makłowicz and Łukasz Galusek.

The history of the Adriatic Sea is both the history of Central Europe and the formation of its borders. Our guests will take us from Zadar and Ancona to Raguza, which is today's Dubrovnik, from large ports and political and commercial centres, such as Venice, Trieste and Dubrovnik, to the homes of Slavic pirates and Bosnian donkey herdsmen’s huts. They will trace the struggles for domination in this region between the Venetian Republic, Byzantium, Turkey and Genoa, mapping the political influence of Vienna, Budapest, and Belgrade.

Guests: Robert Makłowicz, Łukasz Galusek

Host: Bartosz Wilczyński

The meeting will be held on May 31 at 18.00 at the International Cultural Centre, Rynek Główny 25, in the Ravens Hall. It will also be streamed on the ICC Facebook profile.
