Larry Wolff's book "The Idea of Galicia. History and Fantasy in the Habsburg Political Culture ”received a special award for the publisher and translator Tomasz Bieroń in the 26th edition of the prof. Jerzy Skowronek, awarded by the editors of Magazyn Literacki KSIĄŻKI.

The award, established in 1997 to commemorate the tragically deceased General Director of the State Archives, prof. Jerzy Skowronek, is awarded to authors and publishers in the field of history and archives.

Larry Wolff passionately follows the process of "reinventing" Galicia and then, after "liquidating" it, the way in which its ghosts return for a hundred years. It is the intellectual history of the land and, at the same time, a brilliant study of the interpenetration of politics and fantasy. The author describes the Galician world with gusto, referring not only to fiction and history, journalism, letters, diaries, but also to natural history books, folk studies, maps and guides, overlooked or more unknown works.

Last year, the them. prof. Jerzy Skowronek also received a book published by the ICC, "Croatia. History, culture, ideas ”by Maciej Czerwiński.

Prof. In his research work, Jerzy Skowronek mainly dealt with the history of Poland and the Balkan countries in the second half of the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as with international relations in that period. Throughout his scientific career, he was associated with the Institute of History at the University of Warsaw. He was a lecturer at universities, incl. in Skopje, Ljubljana, Sarajevo and Belgrade. He died on July 23, 1996 in a car accident. A few months later, a group of students and friends established an award in his name, which was gaining in prestige year by year.
