At a Distance: What Poles don't know about Ukraine

At a Distance series concerns the exhibition "Ukraine. A different angle on neighbourhood". This time we try to look sideways and even beyond the horizon and check what Poles do not know about Ukraine. To what extent do our national myths obscure contemporary events, how can parallels of the fate of Poles and Ukrainians be built?

Experts who have been dealing with this subject for years: Bogumiła Berdychowska, Aleksandra Hnatiuk, Mykoła Riabczuk will talk about the memory, history and Polish-Ukrainian relations today, also in the context of the war with Russia. The meeting hosted by: Michał Nogaś.

Bogumiła Berdychowska - journalist, historian, editor, specializing in Polish-Ukrainian relations. She cooperated with the Political Thought Center, Fundacja im. Stefan Batory, College of Eastern Europe Jan Nowak-Jeziorański. She published in Kultura Paryskiej, Więź, and Rzeczpospolita. Decorated with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, laureate of the Jerzy Giedroyc awarded by the "Rzeczpospolita".

Aleksandra Hnatiuk - lecturer, researcher, translator, Ukrainian. Together with Bogumiła Berdychowska, they published Bunt Generations. Conversations with Ukrainian intellectuals. She translated the poetry collections of Ihor Kałynć, Wasyl Holoborod'ka, essays and novels by Yuri Andrukhovych, edited and translated essays, among others Jarosław Hrycak, Natalia Jakowenko, Mykola Riabczuk, Roman Szporluk. Decorated with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

Mykoła Riabczuk - literary critic, essayist, columnist, translator. Founder of the magazine "Krytyka", honorary president of the Ukrainian PEN-Club. Since 2014, chairman of the jury of the Angelus Central European Literary Award. His latest book is At the Fence of Metternich's Garden. Essays on Europe, Ukraine, and Europeanization. He is also the author of an essay in the album accompanying the exhibition Ukraine. A different angle on neighbourhood.

Michał Nogaś - cultural journalist, author of interviews, podcasts and critical texts. Last year, he published the book From more than one shelf, a collection of interviews with writers from around the world.
