Modernism in Bydgoszcz – lecture by Dr. Agnieszka Wysocka

Before it was back within the Polish borders in January 1920, Bydgoszcz had already had a clearly defined urban layout. Sometimes the planners would adapt their new concepts to the existing architecture on the one hand, and at other times they put forward their own proposals.

The lecture will be a review of the most interesting buildings completed in the 1920s, when projects funded by the Municipality prevailed, and in the 1930s, when private investors engaged more actively. The presentation will cover large residential developments such as the garden district of Sielanka or the development in Las Gdański, and the new churches, among them the monumental church of the Fathers Missionaries.

Agnieszka Wysocka – art historian and researcher of the 19th and 20th-century architecture and culture. She is the author of “Architektura i urbanistyka w Bydgoszczy w dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym” [Architecture and city planning in Bydgoszcz in the interwar period].
