The work of Frans Masereel, clearly a continuation of Flemish art traditions, is strongly rooted in reality. Just like Skoczylas in Polish Art, Masereel is reffered to as the founder of modern woodcut in Belgium. An illustrator of books by R. Rolland, S. Zweig adn T. Mann, he achieved maestry not only in the graphic art. The works reproducted in this album include oils, watercoloursm and drawings that demostrate his artistic versatility and creative passion.
