Dizajnland – the land of design

Dr Monika Rydiger and Natalia Żak take us to Dizajnland. In the fourth episode of the series "An Alternative Map of Central Europe", they discuss the planned exhibition at the ICC and the objects through which the region’s history speaks – its social ambitions, political tensions, post-war aspirations and realities.

Podcast: Dizajnland – the land of design

In the fourth episode of the podcast series “An Alternative Map of Central Europe” we discuss design, which during the post-war period and later under socialism, up until 1989, was intended to shape reality and realise dreams of modernity. The curators of the exhibition planned at the ICC, entitled “Dizajnland. Design in Central Europe 1945–1989” (2027), talk about how they are working on a narrative intended to illustrate the transformation of tastes and lifestyles in Central Europe, evident in the shift from local craft traditions to global patterns of consumption. They place design within a political and social context, highlighting shifts in aesthetics during that period, people’s aspirations and everyday choices, and the wide-ranging panorama of post-war Central European design – from the Baltic states, through Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, to the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
