Central Europe from the Inside

“Central Europe from the Inside” is a study trip during which participants explore the region’s most interesting sites and engage in discussions about its identity, transformations and contemporary challenges.

The seminar programme combines theoretical reflection on the history, culture and art of Central Europe with first-hand experience of its cultural heritage. It includes meetings, workshops and visits to the region’s most fascinating sites, coordinated by experts from the International Cultural Centre and the Institute of Slavic Philology at the Jagiellonian University.

We particularly invite students, PhD candidates, those interested in the history, culture and travel in Central Europe, and staff employed by Polish cultural institutions seeking to expand their networks of cooperation to take part. The programme is aimed at anyone wishing to move beyond stereotypical views of the region and see just how closely languages, traditions, religions and historical experiences intertwine here.

The seminar combines a humanities-based perspective with the experience of travel. It offers an opportunity to discuss the region’s identity, its multiculturalism and contemporary challenges – but also to get to know people and places that are difficult to understand solely through books or lecture theatres.

The programme is organised by the International Cultural Centre and the Institute of Slavic Philology at the Jagiellonian University.
