Meeting with Agnieszka Rejniak-Majewska

Enthusiasm related to the development of modern visual culture: cinema, popular illustrated press and photographic experiments under the sign of "das neue Sehen" had already been critically complemented in the 1920s in comments about the increasing "photoinflation". A specific response to this situation was the collection and processing by artists of ready-made images, from a collection of "found materials" (Album Hannah Höch), using them in the mode of ironic and mocking paraphrases, to politically engaged photomontage (John Heartfield).

We invite you to a lecture by Professor Agnieszka Rejniak-Majewska, taking place as part of the At a Distance series, which will be devoted to these practices of visual recycling and the reflection on how images look and work. The context of these considerations will be the German discussions on the photographic "new vision" and their echoes in the circles of the Polish avant-garde. The event will take place on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 19.00 on the ICC profile on Facebook.

Prof. Agnieszka Rejniak-Majewska - art historian and aesthetist; deals with the history of modern art, the history and theory of European avant-garde and their relations with the cultural processes of modernity. She is a lecturer at the University of Łódź, conducted research at the University of Chicago, at the Institute National d'histoire de l'art (INHA) in Paris.

Meeting in Polish.
