Karel Hlaváček

From childhood he participated in the social life of the Sokol organisation, which meant physical activity that had a strong influence on his philosophy of life. He made his debut in 1895. At this time he began to associate with the artists connected to the magazine Moderni revue. He made illustrations for poems by Arnošt Prochazka (Prostibolo duše). He died of tuberculosis in 1898. In addition to his literary production, Hlavaček was also an outstanding talented artist whose Decadent-Symbolist work expressed existential doubts on predetermination and the true limits of man in society.
