Podcast: The Balkans – Art as a Witness to History

The third episode of the series “An Alternative Map of Central Europe” features a conversation with Professor Maciej Czerwiński about Croatia as seen from a Central European perspective, and about one of the region’s most important writers, Miroslav Krleža: “It is impossible to grasp the dynamics of Croatian literary, cultural and social systems without taking into account the work of Miroslav Krleža — whether in the fields of poetry, prose, biography, drama, essay writing, cultural promotion, encyclopaedic writing or exhibition curation. In all these areas, he established a strong position, brought about a breakthrough of some sort, reshaped and modified things, and breathed new life into the existing reality,” emphasises the professor. He also talks about a book published by MCK Publishing, entitled “The Gold and Silver of Zadar” by Miroslav Krleža, which he helped to translate.
