Solveig Lonmo, co-curator of the exhibition “The Logic of the local”, examines five projects by Norwegian designers, in which she sees an attempt to reconcile the dichotomy between two significant trends that have become clearly evident in Norwegian design in recent years. On the one hand, designers draw heavily on a sense of being rooted in the surrounding nature and landscape – open and free spaces – which is characteristic of Scandinavian culture as a whole; on the other hand, they are increasingly recognising Norwegians’ penchant for celebrating the cosy home – a separate, interior space.
