“Power of Heritage” seminars

As part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, the International Cultural Centre is organising a series of seminars on the potential of cultural heritage in our lives, both as individuals and as communities. As the national coordinator of the Year in Poland, the ICC seeks to continue the debate on the impact of cultural heritage on society and the economy, on quality of life, creativity and innovation, as well as on the attractiveness of places and their image in the eyes of residents, tourists and investors.

The seminars continue the ICC’s activities in this field, the outcomes of which include, among others, the report Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe and the publication The Potential of Heritage: Socio-Economic Examples from Central Europe. They also serve as one of the instruments supporting and developing the ideas set out in the European Commission’s communication of 22 July 2014, entitled Towards an Integrated Approach to Cultural Heritage for Europe, as well as in the Council conclusions of 21 May 2014.

The implementation of this seminar series is one of the ICC’s initiatives aimed at demonstrating and promoting the understanding among the Polish public that cultural heritage is a strategic resource of the 21st century.

What impact does cultural heritage have on the socio-economic environment? Why—and in what ways—is it an important element of the lives of local communities and individuals? What strategies should be adopted at the local and regional levels in order to fully harness the potential of heritage?

These and similar questions will be explored by the experts invited to participate in the seminar series. We hope that the interdisciplinary approach, along with the diverse experience and expertise of the invited panellists, will demonstrate that by investing in heritage, we are investing in our future.

The seminars were co-organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Poland.

The seminar series included the following events:
