Lviv and Modernity
A-
A+
A comprehensive album dedicated to the architecture of interwar modernism in Lviv.

More than 150 contemporary photographs, prepared specifically for this publication, present iconic projects of Polish, Ukrainian and Jewish architects of the 1920s and 1930s, such as hotels, banks, offices, stores, cinemas, tenement houses, villas, as well as sacral buildings, theatres, hospitals, and schools. Exceptionally noteworthy are archival photographs and plans from Polish and Ukrainian collections published for the first time.

Despite the consequences of World War I and the great economic crisis of 1929, Lviv developed dynamically, rapidly increasing its area and population. The city stood out as the seat of the highly regarded Lviv Polytechnic, the "forge of architecture" and an important educational centre for engineers, constructors, and planners. Prewar Lviv inspired and occupied an important place on the map of the Second Polish Republic and the entire "New Europe". Many outstanding works of modernism were constructed here, setting new directions for the city.

The book is available at the ICC's online bookstore.
