Gustav Klimt. Pictures and Drawnings

Gustav Klimt is a household name: a classic of the 20th century art and a foremost figure among the artists of the Vienna Secession. Stretched between symbolism and decorativeness, Klimt’s works are among the best recognised pieces that were given birth to around 1900.

The exhibition featured paintings, drawings and watercolours, including a copy of the famous Beethoven Frieze. The display became not only an opportunity to present the works of the master, but also to recall the connections between Kraków at the beginning of the 20th century and the Viennese milieu, powerfully symbolised by the venue itself — the Palace of Art, built in the spirit of Secession architecture associated with Joseph M. Olbrich and Otto Wagner.

The exhibition featured paintings, drawings and watercolours, including a copy of the famous “Beethoven Frieze”. The exhibition offered a unique opportunity not only to familiarise the Krakow public with the works of the master, but it also paid tribute to the links between Krakow and the Vienna milieu of the beginning of the 20th century. The most accomplished example and a symbol of these links was the exhibition venue: the Palace of Art erected in the mode of the Secession architecture of Joseph Olbrich and Otto Wagner.
