What is the secret of storytelling through images? What forms can such a story take, and how have they evolved over the years? During the next lecture in the Decades with Art series, we will discuss the intersection of art, graphic design and literature—we will delve into the world of contemporary illustration and get to know its creators better.
Polish illustration is among the most recognizable and valued phenomena in our visual culture. Book illustration holds a special place within it, appreciated both domestically and abroad.
The April meeting in the Decades with Art series will be dedicated to the work of selected artists who, in recent decades, have been developing new forms of storytelling through images. The lecture will show how contemporary illustration is evolving at the intersection of art, graphic design, and literature, and how its creators experiment with various techniques—from drawing and collage to digital tools. The relationship between contemporary illustration and the legacy of Polish illustration from the second half of the 20th century will also be discussed.
The lecture will feature profiles of artists such as Edgar Bąk, Aleksandra Niepsuj, Aleksandra Mizielińska and Daniel Mizieliński and Piotr Socha.
Dr. Małgorzata Jędrzejczyk’s lecture will revisit the exhibition “Artists and Masterpieces of Illustration” (June 4–30, 2017). The exhibition, presented in the historic cellars of the ICC, was created to mark the 50th anniversary of the world’s most important competition dedicated to children’s books—the Bologna Ragazzi Award, organized by the Bologna Book Fair.
