Walks around the Medical Association in Krakow

Chandeliers resembling snowflakes, balustrades decorated with chestnut leaves and stained glass windows depicting Copernicus’s revolution – join us for walks through one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau interiors.

The Medical Society Building at 4 Radziwiłłowska Street in Krakow is one of Stanisław Wyspiański’s most important works of applied art. Although the building appears austere and classicist from the outside, inside it hides spaces carefully designed by the artist, with nature as the main decorative motif. At the time of its construction, the building was extremely modern, equipped with central heating, mechanical ventilation and electrical installations, which was a real technological breakthrough at the beginning of the 20th century.

What will we see during the walks?

During the walks, we will see the Malinowa Hall with its characteristic chairs, visit the reading room and library with preserved friezes and chandeliers, as well as the representative staircase with a balustrade decorated with chestnut leaves and the “Apollo” stained glass window. The building also houses the Jagiellonian University’s Museum of the History of Medicine – the oldest medical museum in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. The collection includes surgical, pharmacy and pharmaceutical tools, as well as documents related to the history of medical sciences.

Dr Michał Wiśniewski will guide you through the Art Nouveau interiors, while Michał Chlipała will introduce you to the collections of the Museum of the History of Medicine.
