Come and join us on a walk to discover the extraordinary stories etched onto buildings and their façades! What mysterious creatures are hidden in the crests of the tenement houses in Kraków’s Krowodrza district? What do they mean and where did they come from? As part of the MCK’s series for young children, we’ll embark on a journey through symbols and learn fascinating stories from the worlds of architecture, the city’s history and beyond.
Join us for a walk during which we’ll discover that it’s worth looking up from time to time – that’s where the most extraordinary stories, etched into the city’s architecture, are hidden. We’ll head to Krowodrza, where we’ll examine the crests adorning the tenement houses and search for the creatures that have been “living” on their façades for years.
During our walk together, we’ll encounter fantastical creatures and discover that each of these elements harbours its own story and significance. We’ll also learn how Kraków’s architecture developed in the early 20th century and why decorating buildings with emblems became so popular. The walk will be an opportunity to take a closer look at details that are easily overlooked in everyday life. Together, we’ll keep an eye out for hidden symbols, learn about the distinctive features of the city’s tenement houses, and uncover the stories embedded in the architectural decorations.
We invite whole families, as well as their four-legged companions, to join us on this walk.
