MINImeetings with art: How have rivers shaped city life? A family walk with puzzles

26 July, 12.30

Puzzles, riddles and urban legends – during this walk, part of our series for the youngest visitors, we’ll be exploring Grzegórzki. We’ll take a look at the lives of the district’s former residents, discover its most interesting places and buildings, and find out why the Vistula was “diverted”.

As part of the MINImeetings with art series, we invite you to join us on a walk full of puzzles and discoveries. Our youngest participants will learn about the history of Grzegórzki – a neighbourhood which, thanks to the Vistula, was for many years one of the most important centres of industry in Kraków. This will be a story about a place where, alongside factories, a meat-processing plant and a workers’ housing estate, the daily lives of the city’s former residents unfolded.

During the walk, the children will solve puzzles and complete field tasks that will allow them to glimpse what everyday life was like a hundred years ago for the people living in the Grzegórzki district, and to find out why it was here that the Vistula was “diverted”. We will also explain, in an accessible and engaging way, the development of the railways, the history of medicine and trade, and the major urban planning project that gradually transformed the face of this part of Kraków.

The session will be led by ICC educators Hanna Martynenko and Marcin Krotla.
