MINImeetings with Art: “Inventions that Changed Art”

Join us for the ICC family workshops at the Jagiellonian University Museum, Collegium Maius. During the session, we’ll explore the inventions that, over the centuries, have transformed the way artists viewed the world and created their works.

18 October 2026, 12.30

What made painters stop faithfully depicting reality? How did paint in tubes allow artists to leave their studios and paint outdoors? During the workshops, we will explore how new technologies and tools have influenced the development of art, from perspective, through the invention of printing and photography, right up to paint in tubes, which has made artists’ work easier. We will consider whether inventions can change the way we view the world around us and inspire artists to seek out new approaches.

In the practical session children and parents, with the support of our educators, will create their own artworks inspired by discoveries that have transformed the way art is created and perceived. We’ll combine various techniques and materials and develop imagination, dexterity and curiosity about the world.

We also invite families from Ukraine to join the sessions – an educator who speaks Ukrainian will be present.

The sessions have been temporarily moved from the ICC’s premises on the Main Square to the Jagiellonian University’s Collegium Maius Museum due to the renovation of the building as part of the FEnIKS programme – European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and the Environment 2021–2027.
