The European Cultural Heritage Summit highlights the role of heritage as a tool for fostering dialogue, cooperation and sustainable development. These values also underpin the mission of the ICC, which will host the next summit in 2027. Accordingly, representatives of Europa Nostra met with the management and staff of our institution. In Kraków, they visited the venues where the various panels and meetings of the European Cultural Heritage Summit will take place. As co-organisers, representatives of the ICC also accompanied them.
The Europa Nostra delegation also paid a visit to the City Hall to discuss the activities planned for next year. Among those representing the organization were: Elena Bianchi, Program Manager for the European Heritage Awards; Barbara Zander, General Director of Europa Nostra; and Giuseppe Simone, Digital Tools Manager. They were accompanied by Wolter Braamhorst of TV Culture and Luca Ravagnan of C3.
The ICC’s involvement in Europa Nostra’s activities
The Summit is the most important annual gathering of organisations involved in the active protection of cultural heritage in Europe, organised by Europa Nostra in collaboration with the European Commission. The International Cultural Centre is an associate member of Europa Nostra. The Director of the International Cultural Centre, Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, is a member of the Europa Nostra Board, whilst Prof. Jacek Purchla, the Director’s representative for academic affairs, is Vice-President of Europa Nostra and, from 2024, he is also Chair of the Jury for the Cultural Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra Awards.
In 1995, the ICC organised the Europa Nostra Congress, which took place in Central Europe for the first time following the political changes; between 2013 and 2015, the ICC, under the auspices of Europa Nostra, co-authored the report “Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe”; and between 2019 and 2021, it co-developed the ILUCIDARE project. The ICC is also a partner in European Heritage Hub project. Representatives of our institution are actively involved in the organisation’s activities.
