The Culture Without Barriers Festival took place October 13–18. The International Cultural Centre participated for the third time, striving to support accessibility initiatives and foster progress in this area. As part of this year’s event, we invited members of the Drużyna Theater to collaborate with us. This troupe was founded in 2022 on the initiative of actress Gabriela Oberbek. Initially, the group operated as part of the “Theater School” project, created by the “Nie Tylko” Foundation for Assistance to People with Disabilities; today, it is an independent troupe. For the theater’s representatives, we organized a walk through the Planty Park in plain language titled “Hidden in the Shade of the Trees”.
During the walk, we looked at the sculptures and monuments together. We learned the stories of the people depicted on them—writers, artists and other fascinating figures connected to Polish art and culture. Together with representatives of the Drużyna Theater, we discovered facts and anecdotes about the park, which was established about 200 years ago on the site of the former defensive walls.
The Culture Without Barriers Festival responds to the diverse needs of the public and aims to increase accessibility in the cultural sphere. Its program is aimed at people with and without disabilities, older and younger people, those with and without children, regular participants in cultural life, as well as those who rarely attend such events. Now in its 14th year, the event was held under the slogan “You can do it this way. And you can do it that way too”, emphasizing that there is no single “correct” way to experience culture.
