The fifth edition of the course “Management of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Visegrad Countries” took place from 14 to 17 June and was combined with the proceedings of the 2nd Central European Heritage Forum and a meeting of the ministers of culture of the Visegrad Group countries. The Second Heritage Forum, which preceded the main part of the course, served as a theoretical introduction to its programme. The Forum was attended by many of the school’s lecturers and participants in the Working Group’s meetings, including: Dr Tamás Fejérdy from ICOMOS Hungary, Dr Gabor Soós from the Gyula Forster National Centre for Heritage Management and Access in Budapest, Ľubica Pinčiková from the Council for the Protection of Monuments of the Slovak Republic in Bratislava, and Jiři Vajčner from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
Once again, the theme of the summer school was a site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List – Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, a Mannerist architectural and landscape complex and a 17th-century pilgrimage park. This time, the summer school programme introduced a more active form of participation, which involved taking part in workshops and preparing presentations on selected topics relating to the conservation and promotion of the site. In Kalwaria, the participants took part in a series of meetings and presentations organised by the town authorities, monks associated with the monastery and experts involved in Kalwaria’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999.
