30 Years of the Nuremberg House in Kraków

In 2026, the Nuremberg House in Kraków and the Kraków House in Nuremberg will celebrate their 30th anniversary. For three decades, both institutions have served as informal embassies for their cities, building bridges between the residents of Kraków and Nuremberg and developing cultural, social and educational cooperation. The International Cultural Centre has collaborated with this institution on numerous occasions, co-creating cultural projects and engaging in the development of Polish-German dialogue.

On 20–21 June 2026, the Nuremberg House will celebrate its anniversary and, to mark the occasion, has prepared a unique programme of artistic events, exhibitions, concerts and activities in the urban space. These events will highlight the long history of cooperation between Kraków and Nuremberg and open a new chapter for joint initiatives.

The Nuremberg House began its activities in 1996 and, since its inception, has been implementing an ambitious programme presenting Nuremberg artists and cultural projects run by the city. The institution organises a range of initiatives related to the German language and the country’s culture. The Nuremberg House cooperates with many Kraków institutions and foreign cultural centres based in Krakow. It is also a partner of numerous festivals organised by the City of Kraków.

The twin houses – the Nuremberg House in Kraków and the Kraków House in Nuremberg – have been in operation since 1996. However, the history of relations between Kraków and Nuremberg goes back much further, as far back as the 14th century, when the two cities were linked by close trade ties and, over time, artistic collaboration as well. The formal partnership between Kraków and Nuremberg was established in 1979. Since then, cooperation between the cities has continued to develop, encompassing almost all areas of life. Countless exhibitions showcasing artists from both cities, film festivals, concerts, theatre performances, educational projects and community initiatives form a rich programme of cultural exchange.

The International Cultural Centre has collaborated with the Nuremberg House on numerous artistic and research projects. Among the most important joint projects were, among others, the exhibition “Nuremberg through the lens of Lala Aufsberg” (2004) and the publication “Krakow and Nuremberg in European civilization”, edited by Heiko Bandilla and Prof. Jacek Purchla.

We wish the team at the Nuremberg House many more years of inspiring work and satisfaction in carrying it out!
