Join us for the next ICC family workshop at the Jagiellonian University Museum. This time, we’ll embark on a journey in the footsteps of animals associated with Collegium Maius and the history of the Jagiellonian University. We’ll hear extraordinary tales about the former inhabitants of the university walls, and during the art session, we’ll create our own works inspired by the academic menagerie.
17 May, 2026, 12.30
The International Cultural Centre in Kraków invites you to a family workshop entitled “The University Menagerie”. During the May edition of MINI meetings with arts we will hear stories about the animals that once lived in Collegium Maius and other buildings of the Jagiellonian University. We will find out what animals could be found in the university courtyard, who looked after the cats, dogs and exotic specimens, and why some of them became true heroes of academic legends. We’ll follow in the footsteps of former professors and their extraordinary pets, uncover the secrets of the university’s natural history collections, and listen to amusing stories about the animal inhabitants of Collegium Maius. We’ll also discuss how people’s attitudes towards animals have changed and why their protection is so important today.
During the workshops, children and their carers, with the support of our educators, will create their own artwork inspired by the university’s menagerie. We will combine various techniques and materials, developing imagination and dexterity whilst sparking curiosity about the world.
We also invite families from Ukraine to join us—an educator who speaks Ukrainian will be present.
The classes have been temporarily moved from the ICC headquarters at the Main Market Square to the Jagiellonian University Museum due to the renovation of the building as part of the FEnIKS program—European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, and Environment 2021–2027.
