Opening of the exhibition “The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv and its Creators” in Ivano-Frankivsk

On May 7 at 14.00 at the Potocki Palace in Ivano-Frankivsk, Director Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik and Dr. Żanna Komar from the Institute of European Heritage at the International Cultural Centre took part in the opening of a poster exhibition dedicated to the Armenian Cathedral in Lviv.

The opening of the exhibition “The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv and its Creators” took place as part of the celebrations of Ivano-Frankivsk City Day. Among those in attendance were representatives of the ICC, as well as the mayor of the city, Ruslan Martsinkiw, and members of the Polish, Armenian, and Jewish communities. The exhibition is the first event of the “CITY-STAR” Festival, part of the project “Intercultural Awareness in Multinational Cities: Tolerance of New Generations”. It is implemented by the Executive Committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council in cooperation with the Maramureș Museum in Romania and the Municipal Enterprise “PALACE – Space for Innovative Creativity”. The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Hungary–Slovakia–Romania–Ukraine program for 2021–2027.

An exhibition organized by the ICC

The exhibition “The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv and its Creators” was organized on the initiative of members of the Association of Graduates of the Academy of Heritage (postgraduate studies coordinated by the International Cultural Centre and the University of Economics in Kraków since 2001), which is committed to the preservation of Polish heritage abroad. The conservation of Jan Henryk Rosen’s murals was one of the Association’s most important projects, carried out at the initiative of its president, Paweł Baranowski, in cooperation with the National Institute of Polish Cultural Heritage Abroad (POLONIKA), with which the current version of the exhibition was prepared, and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. In March 2026, the exhibition was also presented at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, at the “Chlibnia” Gallery.

“The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv and Its Creators” – Spatial Reconstructions and Multimedia

Following the completion of conservation work in the main nave of the cathedral in 2015, the ICC team decided to jointly prepare a presentation of the results. The exhibition concept was developed by ICC staff members Dr. Michał Wiśniewski and Ewa Wojtoń, who invited Dr. Joanna Wolańska, author of a scholarly study on the cathedral and an expert on the architectural history of Lviv; Dr. Żanna Komar; and Paweł Baranowski, the lead conservator on the project, to collaborate on the project. The exhibition “The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv and its Creators” takes the form of display panels and spatial reconstructions, accompanied by multimedia materials. It is supplemented by information explaining the historical and cultural context of Lviv’s Armenian community and the development of multicultural Lviv.
