MCK was a partner of the event, during which guests and special guests received our magazine “Herito,” also available in the festival zone. They were able to read an issue that perfectly captured the spirit of the event, focusing on the theme of the borderland.
During our visit to Cieszyn, we took part in a press conference and a meeting with the organizers of the 28th edition of the Cinema on the Border festival and the 9th edition of the Literature on the Border festival. We discussed cooperation in the coming years and shared our experiences in organizing cultural events. We also explored the festival venues, where the 58th issue of our magazine “Herito”, titled “Borderlands”, was available.
The ICC also had the opportunity to participate in literary discussions with Slovak war correspondent Tomáš Forró about his reportage titled “The Song of the Sirens. Deep into Wartime Ukraine”, and with Taiwanese writer Kevin Chen, during which his book “A Haunted Place” was presented. We were also invited to the opening of the photography exhibition “Václav Havel 1976–2011” and the festival’s opening gala at the Adam Mickiewicz Theater in Cieszyn.
Literature on the Border has accompanied the Cinema on the Border festival since 2018. Over the past few years, the literary program has become an integral part of this event. The Cinema on the Border festival, meanwhile, has been held since 1999 and is the largest showcase of Central European cinema. The event is a Visegrad-focused gathering—participants include figures from the worlds of film and the arts, writers, journalists, and experts from all Visegrad countries. This event creates a platform for exchanging experiences and demonstrating that the countries of Central Europe are united not only by their proximity and geopolitical circumstances, but also by history, tradition, culture and values.
