In seeking the roots of Lithuanian cultural identity, Lidia Korczak was confronted in her essey with a fundamental question: why the Lithuanians did not wanish first in the sea of Russian culture, when the boarders of the state contained extensive areas of Ruthenia, which had been Christianised much earlier, and why, on the other hand, thay did not lose their identity after several centuries in the Polish Commonwealth. To answer this question, the author draws uppon pre-Christian layers of Lithuania's spiritual life, and the wealth of its myths and ideas.
