In May 2003 an international conference took place in the ICC, organised on the occasion of a double jubilee: the 25th anniversary of the inclision of the city of Krakow and Wieliczka in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, and the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Citisens' Committee for the Restoration of Historical Monuments of Krakow (SKOZK). A publication comprises papers delivered during the conference by the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr A. Kwaśniewski; Prof. J. Purchla (the programmatic speech); the Mayor of Krakow, Prof. J. Majchrowski; and the Secretary General of the Polish National Commission for UNESCO, Dr T. Orłowski, all preceded by a foreword by the Chairman of the SKOZK, Prof. T. Chrzanowski. A great asset of the publication is the iconographic material which not only shows the variety and the artistic quality of Krakow's monuments of heritage, but also recordes the achievements of the SKOZK in the field of restoration and conservation of Krakow's monumetnes, and visualises the range of threats to monumental substance due, among others, to the growing "Disneylandization" and "MacDonaldization" of public space.
