Krakow as an example for Bahrain

From 18 to 22 February Professor Jacek Purchla is hosted in Bahrain on the occasion of the preparations for the 42nd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. The former, favourably received, session took place in July 2017 in Krakow. It was chaired by Professor Purchla, who was then presiding over the Committee. One of the events included in the session programme was World Heritage Young Professionals Forum (Youth Forum), co-organised by the International Cultural Centre.

In Bahrain Professor Purchla will deliver a lecture at the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research in Muharraq.

Professor’s presentation, titled History, Memory, Identity – the Experience of Krakow, addresses Krakow’s heritage by locating it within the wider context of Central Europe, as well as discusses current problems related to the management of Polish heritage. This way, it makes a reference to contemporary problems in Bahrain, such as the transformation of identity and the threats to identity stemming from very rapid economic development.
