In the contemporary humanities, the past few decades have been widely labelled “the age of memory” due to disciplines’ undying interest in traces of the past as well as role and mechanisms that govern memory. For artists, memory has become one of the most important issues which has been often subjected to critical analysis.

The catalogue features works created over the last two decades by celebrated Polish artists for whom individual memory (with its intimate dimension and message) and collective memory (especially its mechanisms, shapes and territories) comprise the very fabric of their art. The catalogue also comprises of critical papers which analyse the concept of “memory” in contemporary culture.
