Meetings

The “Travelling Images” exhibition is accompanied by a series of meetings during which we will introduce the participants to the Roma culture. Our guests are representatives of the Roma community, experts (including anthropologists and ethnographers), and art critics.

January will bring two special events:

-        January 22, Sunday at 14:00, expert guided tour of the exhibition “Travelling Images. Małgorzata Mirga-Tas” will be hosted by art critic Bogusław Deptuła;

-        January 26, Thursday at 18:00, Dr. Edyta Gawron, Dr. Elżbieta Mirga-Wójtowicz and Dr. Monika Weychert will talk about the Holocaust of the Roma and Jews.

In February, we will consider what it means that artists are agents of memory and reflect on the impact of art on the public sphere:

-        February 16, Thursday at 18:00, as part of the meeting “The visual power of the Roma” Bogusław Deptuła will talk with Dr. Emilia Kledzik and Prof. Maria Poprzęcka.

In March, we will meet to consider the co-presence of various communities in the structure of Polish society:

-        March 2, Thursday at 18:00, Katarzyna Kubisiowska will host a meeting with Dr. Jarosław Klaś and Monika Szewczyk to discuss the neighbourly relations and the presence of the Roma in Nowa Huta;
-        March 11, Saturdat at 14:00, Magdalena Ujma, art curator and feminist, will give a talk about the exhibition “Travelling Images. Małgorzata Mirga-Tas”.

Our meetings are also available online. Each meeting is streamed on our Facebook profile with translation into the Polish Sign Language. In the days following the meeting, we publish the recording on our YouTube channel and on our website with the option of displaying subtitles.
