The educational programme which accompanies the exhibition “Tara (von Neudorf). Cartographer of sinister history” was developed to address the needs of secondary-school students. Our exhibition focuses on the issues of geopolitical changes which took place in Central Europe after 1989. Its major point of reference is Romania, the homeland of Tara – an artist who considers art to be the medium for his own individual beliefs which contest the existing, often violent reality.

Tara (von Neudorf) was a teacher himself. When teaching history, he inculcated in his students its true version. He often enlivened his classes with some artistic activities – not only did he drew himself, but he encouraged his students to comment on historical fact through the medium of art. Since the works displayed at the exhibition comprise primarily of collages made of old school maps, participants of our educational programme are provided with fascinating geography, history and art lessons – all in one.

Issues addressed during gallery lessons held at the ICC have been developed in such a way as to comply with the requirements of national curriculum. We will focus on a wide range of topics related to contemporary history, contemporary art, heritage and identity.

Students and teachers are invited to expand their knowledge about:
  • the fluctuations of Central European borders in the second half of the 20th century,
  • the milieu of socially engaged artists,
  • Poland’s contemporary history seen through the prism of Romanian experiences,
  • Tara’s unique means of artistic expression.
