The charm of Central European Avant-garde

Can avant-garde Lviv, Novi Sad or Zagreb from the beginning of the 20th century compete with Paris, Berlin or New York? Thanks to the efforts of the Prague publishing house "Arbor vitae" and the Art Museum in Olomouc, a monumental publication entitled Years of Disarray 1908–1928. Avant-gardes in Central Europe. The International Cultural Center was one of the partners in creating this unique compendium of knowledge about Central European avant-garde.

The essays contained in the book come from over twenty specialists from all countries of Central Europe and the United States. Among Polish authors were Paulina Kurc-Maj from the Museum of Modern Art in Łódź and dr Monika Rydiger and Natalia Żak from the International Center of Culture in Krakow.

The book is the culmination of several years of international project entitled The birth of a modern Central European, implemented jointly since 2016 by four partner institutions: the Art Museum in Olomouc, the City of Bratislava Gallery, the Janus Pannonius Museum in Pécs and the International Cultural Center.
