Dumitru Rusu – co‑founder of the Bureau of Art and Urban Research (BACU). The Bureau’s major activities include protection and conservation of architectural heritage and arts from the socialist period. BACU monitors the maintenance, protection, and conservation of the architectural heritage in Central and Eastern Europe as well as attempts to classify and protect architectural complexes, buildings, and other objects on both international and local scales. In 2016, the Bureau undertook the task of classifying four socialist modernist buildings in Chisinau, Moldova. During that period they published Socialist modernism: the analysis of modernist heritage in Moldova, ICOMOS – Heritage at Risk Report 2014–2015. To read more on BACU’s activities, go to
