Every city, Krakow included, has its ups and downs. The current condition of Polish cities is particularly aggravated by a crisis in the field of public expenditure. In this context, new directions of urban development should be identified and followed. A meeting entitled Re-thinking cities! From heritage to a city brand will not only address the challenges that Krakow as well as other urban centres face but will also offer a unique voice in the debate on the future of Polish cities. The Ravens Hall at the International Cultural Centre will welcome two distinguished panellists: Professor Jacek Purchla is an urban studies and heritage expert, the director of the ICC, who, for many years, has been conducting research on urban development, social history as well as art history of the 19th and 20th centuries and who in the years 1990-1991 was a vice President of the city of Krakow; Mirosław A. Boruc is a president of the Polish Brand Institute and has been researching national and regional branding since 1995.
Apart from current events, the discussion will be fleshed out by a book entitled Gry w miasto [Playing a city] as well as the most recent issue of HEITO quarterly whose theme is the city itself.
