Professor Jacek Purchla honored with the Vaclav Burian Award

We are pleased to announce that Professor Jacek Purchla, Polish art historian, founder and long-time director of the International Cultural Center in Krakow, has been awarded the Václav Burian Prize 2024 in the category of Cultural Contribution to Central European Dialogue. This prestigious award is given to individuals whose activities strengthen democratic dialogue and build cultural ties in Central Europe.


The Václav Burian Award is an annual meeting of poets, writers, translators, journalists and intellectuals from Central European countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, and Ukraine. The event is held in Olomouc, where participants present themselves in their national languages and the dialogue takes place live in front of an audience. This year's ninth edition of the Award, organized by the Olomouc Art Museum and the Václav Burian Award Chapter, will be held on October 18 at CENTRAL space.

The award's chapter includes renowned writers and intellectuals Zofia Bałdyga (Czech Republic and Poland), Petr Borkovec (Czech Republic), Sabine Eschgfäller (Czech Republic and Italy), Mária Ferenčuhová (Slovakia), Tomáš Tichák (Czech Republic), István Vörös (Hungary).

In previous years, the award in the category of Cultural Contribution to Central European Dialogue was given to: Aleksander Kaczorowski (2016, Poland), László Szigeti (2017, Slovakia), Andrzej Jagodzinski (2018, Poland), Yuri Andrukhovych (2019, Ukraine), Monika Sznajderman, (2020, Poland), Martin Pollack (2021, Austria), Martin M. Šimečka (2022, Slovakia), Taras Prochasko (2023, Ukraine)
