Romania – „A sad country, full of humour”

One does not know much about Romania. As if, despite its vicinity, the country has never been on our way. Perhaps, it is closer to us than one may think. If the paradox is the very term that grasps its phenomenon, we should follow its contradictory nature. The editors of “Herito” quarterly, whose 12th issue has been dedicated to Romania, invite everyone to take a closer look at the country in question.

What is contemporary Romania like? In what shape did it emerge from a transformation period? What is the nature of its modernisation and what can it offer to contemporary Europe?

We kindly invite to a meeting with Łukasz Galusek, an editor responsible for the Romanian issue of “Herito”, who will talk about young Romanian art, as well as Małgorzata Rejmer, who will discuss young Romanian cinema. In the introduction to the issue, the words the poet George Bacovii have been quoted, namely that Romania is “a sad country, full of humour.” On November 16, during another meeting within  the “Coffe and press” cycle, one will learn how much sadness and how much humour one can discover in Romania.
