13 May, 6 pm

On May 13, we invite you to a conversation about one of the strongest premieres of Russian literature in recent years – “It's Only the Plague” by Ludmiła Ulicka.

In this novel, the Russian author explores a forgotten piece of history – the plague epidemic that took place when it broke out in Moscow in 1939, but was very quickly suppressed. The author, a dissident and oppositionist, focuses on the actions of the political police, who took up the fight against the bug with the same methods they used to fight political opponents.

The meeting will be held in Polish

Ludmiła Ulicka is one of the most prominent contemporary Russian writers, winner of the Russian Booker and the French Prix Médicis, among others. For years she has been critical of the Kremlin's policies, and after the outbreak of war in Ukraine she left Russia and today lives in exile.

The meeting will be moderated by Paulina Malochleb, a literary scholar and critic.

Free admission

We invite you to read and talk together – in the heart of Krakow, among people who believe that books unite Central Europe.
