Library Night at the MCK. 500 years of "La Operina"

Night of Libraries is a nationwide evening-night campaign promoting reading and libraries as open and accessible cultural institutions with an offer for people of all ages.

In this year's edition, the Library of the International Cultural Center in Krakow together with the Littera Nova School of Calligraphy invites you to unique calligraphy workshops, developed on the basis of the first writing textbook, "La Operina", by the great master Ludovico Vincentino degli Arrighi, published in Rome in 1524.

The 500th anniversary of this work is a celebration in the calligraphy community, which makes us all the more willing to share this extraordinary text on the Night of Libraries with people for whom the written word has special value.

For workshop participants, it is an opportunity to learn not only about the noble typeface of Cancellaresca Corsiva, but also to touch an important part of European heritage, which is the essence of the MCK's activities.

During the workshops, you will be able to purchase "La Operina", a reprint excellently edited and translated by Magdalena Wrana, published by the Art of Calligraphy Foundation, and a simple pen with a nib cut for writing with Cancellaresca.

We invite you to the MCK Library between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Calligraphy workshops will take place in the Panoramic Hall between 6.00-8.00 p.m.
