Lecture: “Geometry of the detail. Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Vienna Workshops”

2023-05-29, 12:00 a.m.

May 29, at 12:00

The lecture referred to the exhibition “Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Life and work”, addressing the work of Mackintosh and that of selected artists working at Vienna Workshops. The lecturer discussed the links between Mackintosh and the Viennese design community.

The works of the Scottish architect and designer and the activities of the Wiener Werkstätte [Vienna Workshops] were an expression of new ways of thinking about detail and ornamentation, as well as about the relationship between form and structure. At the same time, Victor Horta designed houses full of multi-coloured stained-glass windows, finely winding staircases and floral ornaments for the Brussels elite, and Hector Guimard created his famous sculptural entrances to Paris metro stations.

The lecture took place online via Zoom. Admission was free.
