As part of the European Heritage Hub project, the International Cultural Centre in Kraków is launching a survey aimed at non-governmental organisations working in the heritage sector in Northern and Western Europe. We want to build a comprehensive picture of this sector across Europe.

As part of the project Mapping the Non-Governmental Heritage Sector in North and Western Europe (2026–2027), we are launching the survey phase addressed to non-governmental organisations active in the field of cultural heritage in Northern and Western Europe. The study is carried out by the International Cultural Centre in Kraków within the framework of the European Heritage Hub, coordinated by Europa Nostra.

The survey is being conducted in eight countries covered by the second stage of the mapping: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Its purpose is to collect comparable data on the functioning of non-governmental heritage organisations, including information on their fields of activity, organisational structures, cooperation with other stakeholders, and the main challenges faced by the sector.

We kindly ask organisations working in the field of heritage to take part in the survey and to share information about the questionnaire with partners, collaborators, and other stakeholders in the sector. The greater the number of responses, the more complete andreliable the picture of the non-governmental heritage sector in Europe will be.

The data collected through the questionnaire constitute a key element of the entire project. The success of the mapping largely depends on the participation of organisations in the survey, as only direct responses from representatives of the sector can provide a reliable picture of its scale, diversity, and needs. The results of the survey will serve as the basis for further analysis and the next stages of the research, and will be used in the preparation of the report on the non-governmental heritage sector in Europe, planned for 2027.

The questionnaire is available in the official languages of the countries covered by the study, allowing organisations to complete the survey in their national language.

Completing the survey takes approximately 15 minutes and represents an important contribution to improving knowledge about the heritage sector and supporting future activities at the European level.
