Israel’s Black Swan

December 1 6 p.m.
Israel’s Black Swan – reading poems by Else Lasker-Schüler
Another in a series of readings will be devoted to Else Lasker-Schüler. This German poet of Jewish descent is often named “Israel’s Black Swan” or “Israel’s Sappho”. Her life, spread between Berlin and Israel, made its way to Else Lasker-Schüler’s literary oeuvre which combines Western European tendencies and the Biblical Hebrew motives. A special context for reading Else Lasker-Schüler’s poetry at the ICC seat will be provided by a display of her prints currently on view at the ICC Gallery in the framework of the exhibition entitled Hunting down Modernism. The Prohibited Arts in the Third Reich.
