ICC at the Mondiacult 2025 conference in Barcelona

Director Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik and representative of the Education Center – Heritage Academy of the ICC, Zofia Rokitka, took part in the MONDIACULT 2025 conference, which was held in Barcelona from September 29 to October 1.  

MONDIACULT is one of the largest conferences on cultural policy and sustainable development, attended by representatives of ministries of culture from around the world. This year in Barcelona, 194 representatives of UNESCO member states discussed global action plans for culture for the coming year, referring to the decisions of the previous edition, which took place in Mexico in 2022. The conference was also attended by representatives of intergovernmental organizations, research centers, cultural institutions, youth, and the private sector.  

This year's conference focused on six main issues. These were: equal access to culture, the impact of technological development on the cultural sector, cultural education, the economy of culture and related innovations, the role of the cultural sector in sustainable development, and the protection of cultural heritage in the face of war and climate crises. In addition, the meeting focused on two cross-cutting themes of global importance: culture and AI, and culture and peace. The conference was held at the CCIB Centre de Convenciones Internacional de Barcelona.

The conference also featured a special space for young participants – MondiaYouth. Young leaders, creators, activists, and cultural managers from around the world discussed, shared ideas, and talked about opportunities for future cooperation. The main objectives of this part of the program were to encourage them to actively participate in key debates on culture and sustainable development, to gather their opinions on the most important issues raised during the conference in a summary document, and to highlight their role in promoting intergenerational and multicultural dialogue on the cultural sector and its importance. Zofia Rokitka also took part in this part of the conference.
