How to photograph books? The photographic workshop with Basia Budniak

We would love to invite you to see the photo relation of the ICC’s workshop, hosted by Basia Budniak. On February 3rd, 14 people tackled a challenge which was to tell about a book by photographing it. The heroes of the photos were our publications.

The first step was to analyse the object. Then, participants wondered about the similarities and differences of photographing objects and people. Finally, they searched for the right placement of light that would allow them to reveal the visual nuances of the print.

Basia Budniak – photographer and visual artist, for years photographing extraordinary book publications and albums designed by the best. She studied photography at the Film School in Łódź and the University of the Arts in Poznań. She holds a degree in Polish philology (the Jagiellonian University). Her studio is at the Matejko Square in Krakow. She has a holistic approach to photography – from photographic gestures to making a picture. That is why in her works, not only artistic but also commercial, every moment of the process of photographing is very important. Her last works, “Black Heart” and “I’m not a robot,” were displayed at the Łódź Fotofestiwal 2022.
